Timecode Track

I work at a VFX facility and we make our QuickTime dailies through shake, with all info, etc. burned in automatically. A production we are working on is asking for us to embed timecode into each shot we turn over, and they suggest doing it through Final Cut. However, this would take the "automation" out of "automatic" and would cost lots of man hours.

Does anyone know if it's possible to embed timecode data into a QuickTime file from the fileOut, much like you would embed an audio track?

Quicktime in shake is built around a really old version of the api and alot of the embedded timecode abilities were added in the last version or two of qt.

I would look at using sequence publisher from iridas. It is commandline based and allows you to quickly add timecode and other embedded data to the view. It could essentially replace Shake for doing dailies and supports some newer codecs for i/o which Shake sometimes has trouble with (h264, etc..)

you could also use compressor for timecode burns unless you need to do some other fancy stuff
