Toggle Hold Weights On Selected

hello, all!

attempting to paint my skin weights on my model and was wondering about the "Toggle Hold Weights on Selected" button....

....do you guys generally use this once you have the weights painted the way you want per joint (influence)?

any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Yes i always use the lock toggle buttom.

It all matter with the smooth tool, you can smooth a value but you dont know where the values will go.
Exept if you lock every undesirable joint, you pretecting your skin.
The thing with paint skining is to always add values on the joints never remove.
Then lock every joints exept those involved in the interested area and smooth it to make it better.

Ok i'll be nice, i let you on the skining pro way,
Here is the script i use to lock every joints of the selected Skeleton.
Select the root and launch the commande : lockJoint "";
It locking all the joints under the root.
You'll just have to unlock the only 2 or 3 interested joint to paint ...

this sounds very interesting and effective. however, i am not very experienced with scripting in maya. any chance you could kinda give me a little tutorial on how i set his script up and use it? if you have time, i'd really appreciate it.

hmm i dont think thatd work. but rether putting

lockJoint "";

to the shelf would. Anp lacing that script to yoru scripts directory in a file named lockJoint.mel for future loads of maya to use.

That script looks handy... I was wondering about that, bcz fuck clicking on each and every joint and clicking "lock weights"...
