Trackball for 3D?

Is a trackball any better or worse than an optical mouse for 3D work (mostly Maya, some Zbrush)? I'm looking at the Logitech Trackball Wheel, and possibly the Microsoft Trackball Optical , which I haven't heard great things about, but I'm still researching.
I've read a few posts that said you can't get as precise with a trackball, but I've read others that say it's more precise. I've never used one myself, so what's the opinion?

for zbrush a a stylus is in order!

3dconnexion.com makes a pretty cool trackball like device. they are owned by Logitech. it has plug in for over 100 applications, including Maya and 3Dmax.

Maybe I should have been clearer. I'm talking about a trackball as my main input device. One like this: http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/pro...3d&type=ovr or this: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2150,CONTENTID=5002

trackball isnt any better than a mouse. It just uses less desktop space thats all (and is more expensive)! But if you realy want to use zbrush then you need something more akin to a stylus. Thats because a tarckball and a mouse are horrible in painting surface deformations buta a stylus wich has persure is as easy to use a s a pen.
