Trackmarks In Whitebox

Hi all,

i have to do a shooting in a big white studio. As I need some tracking references i have to lay out some trackmarks.

For greenscreen i use slightly different green ones that give enough contrast for tracking but are easily keyable.

On white it seems to be not that easy. I think on using very light grey dots and not overshoot the background so that they disappear at the grading stage.
Or would it be better to use green ones in that case too and key them away?

Any experiences?

that depends a lot on what you want to do, how many tracking markers you need, how often somebody crosses the frame and what camera you are using etc..

if you shoot some compressed video format, green obviously would not a very good idea, or a light grey can hunt ou later you if there's some reflection off it etc.

if in doubt and you need very accurate tracking, i'd make them dark black and roto them out manually later.

the idea for the keyable trackmarks comes from the very(!) short timeframe for the postproduction.

compression artifacts should not be an issue in this case, we are shooting at HD 12 bit uncompressed. final size would be SD.
