Hey all. I am having an issue that many seem to be having with the new Transfer Attributes command in Maya 8x. A huge use of this tool used to be for transferring uvs from one mesh to another, even if the model was skinned and had other deformers applied already. This allowed character setup artists to rig and skin meshes while texture artists unwrapped the same mesh. It now appears that if Transfer Attributes is used to send uv's from an imported, unwrapped mesh onto an already skinned mesh, you cannot...
- delete non-deformer history at all to bake in the Transferred UVs
- delete the imported, unwrapped mesh from the scene as it deletes the Transfered UVs off of the skinned mesh
Keeping the imported, unwrapped mesh in the file slows down the entire scene, as the skinned mesh is constantly referencing the imported mesh through the Transfer Attributes node. This is hugely undesirable for film or game production. What are the solutions? The same issues appear when using the Copy Mesh Attributes option as well. Please advise. Thanks so much.
