I'm simply trying to bring an audio track into the Maya timeline for reference in animation. I'm sure I'm doing everything right as I've done it before on other systems. File>Import with the option "file type" set to "audio". I choose the file and then click "import". I then go down to the timeline, right click on the timeline, choose "audio" and then choose my file. No waveform shows up and it doesn't play along with the animation. If you press play and then stop it at random parts and press play again, sometimes it will play that part of the audio for just a second and then cut out again.
I'm on a brand new 1 GHz eMac. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Maya 5PLE. I've tried using version 4.5PLE. I've tried installing that FCheck update that's available. I've tried using all different audio files including a sample that comes with the Learning Maya "Character Rigging and Animation" book that I had used successfully on a PC system. Nothing works. It's always the same.
Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone help? I searched the forum for problems importing audio and didn't find anything so sorry if this has come up before.
Thanks in advance.
