Trouble with rendering

I have a scene that I have just rendered ( takes about 3 hrs) and each time it finishes, it looks nice but it plays in slow motion. Can't find that any setting is wrong. I have the renderer to render at 24fps and it's worked on other scenes but this one is odd. Help!

Try rendering at 30 fps.

Hmm what are your settings inside maya for time. And what do you use to play the render? are you avare that the uncompressed avis maya produces dont have a speed setting at all so mediaplayer asumes ntsc speed wich is very close to 30 fps. If you want 25 fps output you need to recopress and tell its 25 fps.

Sounds like you are rendering an uncompressed avi file. Most computers don't have fast enough hard drives to playback an uncompressed avi at full speed. So it is probably skipping frames like mad. Your better off rendering sequential images and either loading them into ram with fcheck or making them into some kind of compressed movie in a separate app like afterfx or qtpro.

also, for something easy, quick, and free, get virtualdub (i believe www.virtualdub.com). download it, install it, run it. Open up the uncompressed avi, select Video->compression and pick one of the codecs to use. Divx is good, although u loose significantly more quality then most other codecs, but u have much smaller file size. Anyway, after you select the codec, go File->save video and save the video, using a different name then the original (u might want the original for something else).

Hope this helps
