Hey Folks! I’m going to outline the problem I am currently
having when I’m animating in Maya 2010
Task:
Have a character lift a box and throw
it.
Problem:
After my character grabs the box, I created a key when the box leaves my
character's hands. When i press key on the animation timeline, it erases
the box's animation keys i have previously made with the IK/FK panel (on the
right side of the screen).
Steps Involved :
1.) I animate my character into position to pick up box
2.) Frame 5, I select both IK arm control boxes and then the box (that I
want to grab) and press: constraint >
parent
3.) Now that the box is following my IK hands, I go back to frame 4, I
am in the right side panel > shapes
pCube_parentconstraint1 > and I turn the 1's to 0's
on both Right Arm IKW0 and Left Arm IKW1 and then right click >
keys selected, and it helps animate, BUT there isn’t any keys made on
the timeline. Hmmm (the problem occurs later cause of this)
4.) Frame 5, I make sure that both Right
Arm IKW0 and Left
Arm IKW1 are on 1's
5.) I animate my character till he is ready to throw the box away, frame 14,
I right click on shapes > pCube1_parentConstraint1 >
keys selected on both IK hands.
6.) Frame 15, I right
click on shapes
pCube1_parentConstraint1
turn the 1's back to
0's> keys selected on both IK hand ctrls. Right away the box I’m
trying to throw falls straight back into position from before the character
lifted it.
7.) When I try to manually key the translation of the box, it erases all that I
have done above. The box is key-able and is visible on the timeline but it
erases all the animation data made from above. Not good.
Solution: ?
I have tried different methods like:
Using different constraints,
Different rigs
Tried to parent constraint the box (I’m throwing) to a locator > parent
the IK hands to the locator.
Please give me any feedback on how to solve problem.
Thanks Folks,
Jason
