The majority of model formats that I found on TurboSquid and Digimation are 3DSMax, Lightwave, and .DXF files. Where are all the .MA files? Are people just convertinig these other formats to Maya formats? I've imported .DXFs before, but they come in really heavy and the textures are ususally screwed up? What the best method/format to convert from? Why aren't people building these models as .MA's?
Thanks

http://www.doschdesign.com/products/3d/ They include .objs in their series
As for free models from turbosquid or 3dcafe, yea it's hard. Usually I just import the 3DS file via the importer (see alias website to get the free bonus tools). Or if I'm in desperate need of the model I'll import a Lightwave file into Cinema4D then export that out as a dxf or obj. I usually have to retexture everything, kind of a pain.
