Two layers of paint

HI

Anybody help because I'm trying to create a photorealistic texture of a stainless steel surface that has two coats of paint on it that has been scratched. Would you put it as one texture or three different ones because it has to look 3D so that I can see a step downwards between each layer.

Apply the steel surface first. Then apply the paint coats. Make sure that the paint coats have an alpha channel that contains information on where it's been scratched. The paint will automatically show the metal where the scratches are because of the alpha channel. Use that same alpha channel as a bump map too.

I did something similar to the table and benches in the image below. Except I was making scratched wood as opposed to scratched paint. (The principle is the same)

Thanks for the advice but I was hoping if any professionals out there could help me, you know someone who knew what they are doing rather than some part timer.

Only joking, if I can get it to look half as good as yours then I will be more than happy. Im new to shaders and texture so its all abit daunting at the moment but given a few years at the computer I may get the hang of it.
