Uniform spacing of vertices on Curve

how do you create a right angled linear curve with 8 spans that have uniform spacing between vertices?

i can see how that might work but what if the vertice points that i want aren't on a grid line?

rebuild the curve with uniform, linear and the nuber of points you want -1 as the number of span.
