Upgrading a SGI 320-Help

I have a SGI 320 running W2K. I would like to add another processor - for a max of 2.
1. Reading manual it states I would have to reinstall WindowsNT - the OS it shipped with. I have upgraded though to W2K. Have read that W2K is irrevsible once installed.
Please advise.
2. Anybody know what is the fastest P3 I could upgrade to?
How much, for each?
3.The current is a Xeon 500. If I stay with that, anybody know how much one costs?

I think the max you can upgrade to on that box is dual 600s. You will also need a voltage regulator I think. And just so you know SGI will be of no use to you! I've been trying to help someone with the exact same problem. Check out the techpubs section at SGI...they may have something there.

Win2k is NOT unreversible.. I've done it 5 times back to NT4.

The only trick is getting your PROM firmware upgraded, which requires two steps. 1.001 and 1.004 if I remember correctly... I did it a few months ago, and will never have to do it again, so I don't remember exactly.. SGI knows.

The SGI320 tech support WILL be able to help you - I've found documentation on their site, as well as from them directly. You just have to ask the right questions so they understand your needs.

A regular PIII will not fit in a Xeon slot, btw.
