Urgent! problems on install NT with use soft

Hello everyone~
I've bought a new desktop to use softimage. my whole system run in scsi. I have installed win98 with fat16 system, and I want to install the Nt4.0 so that my computer can dual boot. but when I install NT4.0, NT told me that my harddisk is exceed 1023 cylinder (I've checked that my harddisk have 1111 cylinders) and so that get error while the installation of NT. My harddisk is IBM 9.1G SCSI harddisk with fat16 system and divided into 5 partitions (C, D, E & F also 2014gig and the left of space assigned as G). How can I correct this problem so that I can install NT successfuly? (p.s I can't use external software such as partition magic to make partitions)

erm if u don't mind doing a reinstall of all your stuff then can't u use good ole fdisk?

hey, try this partition configuration, C: > 128mb FAT16 just to make windows nt and w98 run, then install w98 in a separate partition in FAT32, lets say with the letter D (create all this with FDISK!), when u have windows 98 Installed, u could start the NT installation, then i guess u know whats next

Warning: since ur disk is scsi, u need to say NT installation that use the ScSi drivers u have, so when u saw the blue screen of the Nt Installation start pressing F6 until the installer ask u for a driver, u put the Floppy with the driver, and the nt will now recognize ur ScSi board and the Hard Disk

er~ in fact i wanna know what exact problems occured on my harddisk so that cause this condition??? and, sorry 4ndy, what's "ole fdisk"? and I want my harddisk partition in same FAT system for easy manage (i.e. all in fat16)~
does this requirement possible??

FDISK is basically a dos version of partition magic..... well it's not as good but it lets you resize your partitions and other basics like that.

Erm... try what gonzalostorni said he seems like he knows what he's talking about

p.s. it might be obvious but type fdisk in the dos command prompt to run fdisk, it's quite simple to use.

u said make a C partition with only 128mb, why need do this? and which OS should I placed inside it (but it seems too small that to store any OS except DOS.....)? and then place the win98 in partition D with use of fat32, then after install NT, will NT can't recongize this partition? ( i head NT just support fat16!!??), and then u said install NT, in which partition?? install in any partition rather than C and D???

Solution why don't u format and convert your whole HD to FAT32. Then dual boot between win98 and win2k. Coz win2k doesn't need to be installed on a NTFS partition and will run happily on FAT32.
I've got soft installed and running on win2k and it does the job.

i've tried install win2k~ after installed win2k, my soft 3.7 work ok, but my MAYA 1.0 (whooooooo very old version) get error in win2k!!!! so I can only install NT4.0

hi what im talking about is to install the OS in there respective ideal partitions formats, in 98 will be FAT32 and in NT will be NTFS, with this u will have the maximum performance. the FAT16 128mb partition its only for nt to work, there not supposed to be nothing in there, in fact could be smaller, like 64mb. My idea of a ideal partition with those OS is , the C: in FAT16 with 128mb, a D: partition with 98 in FAT32, this could be 2 or 3 GB, depends on u, and a E: partition with NTFS, for windows NT. I know that in NT u couldn see the Fat32 partition and the same happens in 98, but there ar some apps that u could get that read fat32 in NT and NTFS in 98.

PD: remember that fat16 only supports 2gb maximum and the cluster are damn big..ur disk will fill faster rather than in NFTS or FAT32

really thanks for your suggestion~ but I heard a event that "after using fat32 to partition on a harddisk, this harddisk (or that partition on this harddisk) can not change back to use fat16 in future", is this real?? and, how to create the partition using NTFS? can I create this partition with the boot disk of winNT (with the fdisk command in the boot disk)?
and I've read the manual of my scsi card, there are 2 options (INT 13H and support greater than 1GB) related to the cylinder problems of harddisk, will my problem solve by simply select these option and then re-partition my harddisk with simple fat16??

hey, u always could delete partitions and reformat in the system u need, like if u have a NTFS and u want i to be a FAT16, u simply delete the partition and reformart in FAT16. I use to have my hd with 10 linux partitions and then i deleted all and reformat in 2 NTFS partition, and the HD works perfect.
On how to create the NTFS partition, when u run the NT installer, it ask u to create a new NTFS partition, u put the desired space..and the installer will format that partition, and then install the system, but what happend if u want a second partition? u do it later, whihin NT, but remember to install Service Pack 6a first( or the last that is available) and then in Administrative tools> Disk Administrator u create the new partition.
i dont understand what u mean with the ScSi controller options, u always could format ur 9gb disk on 5 FAT16 partitions, but i will not recommend this. it will kill the performance of ur HD.

C and D:fat32 for win98, E and F: NTFS for winNT, G:fat16 for only 128mb, will NT work with this??
I really get crazy about the cylinder problem of my harddisk~

i got another idea of partition my harddisk, will this work?
C, D,E> fat16, the F>ntfs (2 G), the left space assign as G>fat16 for backup storage
because i dont' want to have a big change on my harddisk since it's full of files.............
will this system work for both OS in booting and runing, ????

hi, u could format ur entire disk in fat16, but as i told u before the speed wont be the same. The smal fat16 partition need to be the C: because thge bios search in here for a boot record. If ur disk is full of files, i recommend to backup everything before starting to play with the partitions..remember 1 mistake and all ur files ar gone
