ahhh yes that is true but there are things that work differently. For modelling real life cars you want to set up blue prints, which can be found on this site. Where there is also a tutorial on how to set them up.
Blue prints
For architecture I think this is a little more complicated. You might want to find building plans. You could try using primitives and just texturing the windows etc on. It depends what the building are going to be used for. Games? Film?
I also have a question on modelling architecture but for games. I want to know if there are any reference sites that give details such as the standard width of certain types of roads, pavements. The average height of certain floors of buildings, doors, windows etc.
Sorry for taking over your thread but i think it would be useful info for both of us. Hope i helped.
Yeah, I've always wondered if there was a reference site for details like that... awesome idea. Don't worry, you're not taking over my thread, I need all the help I can get. I'm sure if I worked hard enough, that I could put together a good building, but the trouble is fine detail, lighting, and rendering.
Same with the car blueprint site... there must be a site with information on major buildings, somewhere where you can get basic measurements and blueprints.
I can put together a model of a building, but what I want is for the building to look real, like a photo. And by the way, I'm not making the models for a company yet, but I was being mentored to work at EA, and I still might do it. Another place I thought I could use Maya was at an architecture firm, but for now, I just want to make models for fun.
