Using Mel With Layers

Hey everyone,

I want to set a couple of hotkeys to help me deal with layers.

First, I want to make one that will change the visibility of the current layer. I know I can put layerEditorLayerButtonVisibilityChange with the name of the layer, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it just change the visibility for whatever layer is selected.

Second, I want to make a hotkey to switch between layers, but again, I don't want it to be specific (for example: layerEditorLayerButtonSelect 0 layer1;). I want it to just select whatever the next layer is in the list.

Any ideas?

the file layerEditor.mel has a lot of information about how Maya handles the layers, I'd use it as a reference to find useful commands.

also, a handy trick is to bind "Set Only Selected Layers Visible" to a hotkey, that way you can manage which layers are visible/invisible with a single key.

thanks for the replies, but I think I'm getting ahead of myself. Unfortunately, I barely understand MEL, so I'm still lost. It's not your faults, though, I just need to pick up a book on mel and figure it out.
