Value Templates problem

I do not understand function of Value Templates
I do not know how to share Value Templates on multi-objects

For example :
i have two Sphere and leave each other in two Modles,
i creative Value Templates and Clip base a Sphere,
in the Value Templates property i setting a Rule (for example, i type this+2 in sphere.kine.local.posx's Expression ),
when i apply this Clip in Mixer, the Clip automatism appiy Clip Effect : this+2 ,
but when i apply this Clip on other Sphere , no Clip Effect is automatism apply .

This is Why ?
I'd appreciate it if they could tell me. Thanks!
by the way, regret i do not speak english well

Value template is the way to make a bridge of parameters between to different objects.
If you create a sphere with a translation animation.
Then a cube and want to assign the source animation of the sphere, you can make a template mapping from the sphere to the cube.
The PPG will display the animated parameters...you will have to map the correct name for the parameters : Cube instead of sphere

Actually, what you've just described is the Connection Mapping Templates, which are indeed a way of mapping animation that was stored in actions for one set of parameters onto a different set of parameters at the time you instance an action. So the Cx mapping template is used as a kind of premapping for names in your actions when you instance them.

VALUE mapping templates are quite different, and are a kind of premapping for the value map strings within clips when instanced. So, if you have a value map template that says "sphere.kine.local.posx"->"this*2+3", then anytime you instance a clip (whilst the template is active) that has an item inside driving the posx of the sphere, then the clip will get an entry in it's value mapping tab saying "this*2+3".

If you drag and drop the CLIP (not the source) from one model to another, the clip effect will copy with the clip. If you drag a source from one model to another, and you want the value map effect to appear, you will need a rule in the value mapping template of the TARGET model.

Does this make any sense ? If not, please feel free to holler, and I'll help as best i can.

Clip effects, value mapping strings and templates are very powerful, as they allow you to completely change or tweak the nature of underlying animation clip animation, without altering or destroying the actual data in the clip (the offset effect is one example of a clip effect, and you can see what it's doing by opening the clip property page and looking in the value map tab - the offset animation is stored on the per-item clip effect params)

COOL! thanks

I have a question
How are you think Alias|Wavefront and mental images Form Strategic Alliance ?
I am a softimage's lealty user, for this news i jest disappoint !

re. mental ray and Maya. For mental images it makes complete sense to work with vendors of several animation softwares to try and ensure the success and ubiquity of their rendering core solution. We continue to have very good relations with mi, and to integrate our joint technologies, as we have been doing for several years.

It's worth noting that max and mi also have a partnership, and that there are differing forms of integration. We hope we will be able to continue to lead the pack not just in terms of the raw rendering engine, but in integration with the application, where much of our own effort has been focused.

And competition is always good !
