Cool as a cucumber, you know how to use the tools. You should think about specializing in a particular area or style or if you want to round it out what about some character animation and story telling (thats when it starts getting difficult!). Its better than most student show reels, but a bit bland (awch!).
Also what are your goals? kissing butt at PDI? try to get some realistic creative ideas on an alternative to the cut throat world of ILM type clone slavery.
Some pretty solid content.
I would suggest the following:
Modeling:
This is your strong point, but I don't think you are showing well. Many of the full figures are too far away to see the detail. You seem to be doing flythroughs with them. Someone checking your models doesn't need to be dazzled, they just want the goods. So how about some quick close ups, and show some wireframe.
Animation:
Flythroughs by you no points at all for animation skills. Use them only to show off a model or scene, which means the emphasis is on these. The light saber monster is very weak for character animation. I am only saying this because I feel you are probably much better than you are showing. I suggest working with just a skeleton and simple blocks to define the basic shape of the character. This will let you focus on just animating. When you have more skill start working with rigged characters.
Lighting:
I think this is really hurting your presentation. Although lighting can be quite difficult, most artists can come up with a style that looks professional. Just keep working on it. In the grand scheme of things the value of importance should be Lighting, then textures then geometry. That's not to put less value on modeling, but to emphasize that a bad model can be fixed with good lighting and textures, but even the most detailed and accurate model will always fail if the lighting and textures are weak.
Show just your best. People are too busy to care about seeing everything you ever did. Always remember that a 30 second demo of great stuff is always better than 2 minutes of that same great stuff plus a bunch of filler. Extra stuff that isn't good can kill someone's evaluation of you.
Hope this helps. Again you have some great stuff. Just keep up with good work.
Urp
Thanks for the replies, I'll definately put your suggestions to good use.
I would say my biggest weak point is that I can't spend a month or two on a project without geting sick of it. I generally don't spend more then a week on something before moving on(which is why you don't find more character animation on the reel because of the time involved).
Thanks again for the help!
maybe you should try to do some group projects if you know other animators...
