Vector Oceans

Hi, Im new here, and relatively new to Maya.

Im working on a video clip that requires lots of animated vector ocean shots. Ive found a .swf to emulate in Maya Help (which Ive also found on the provided link) but not found tutorials how to do so.

Ive tried converting Fluids to Polys, but it kills the animation. Ive been trying to make a preview plane renderable as I assume this might be a way to do it...
but no luck yet

Im running 6.5, and the example I want to find a tut for is at http://www.alias.com/eng/products-services...rendering.shtml

its under the Vector Rendering heading, titled 'Boat'

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

make a pre render script that generates the plane for each frame!

Thanks Joojaa,

I dont know how to write scripts for Maya as Im still pretty new to the program. Are there any other ways around this without scripting? If not where would I look to learn how to script something like this?

Thanks

Not realy offourse you can petition somebody esle to do this for you.

But you should reneber allmost everything you do in maya is script in some form or another.

yeah, so I noticed... getting my head around some of the scripting, but Im not so up to speed that I can write something off the top of my head.

Cheers again,

Ill keep looking

ok heres a dirty one run this in script editor!

proc bakeDispToBlend(int $start,int $end){
$obj=ls -sl;
string $array[];
for ($i=$start;$i<=$end;$i++){
currentTime -update 0 $i ;
select -r oceanPlane1;
displacementToPoly;
$temp=ls -sl;
$array[size($array)]=$temp[0];
}
select $array;
blendShapeDeleteTarget "blendShape -ib";
$temp=ls -sl;
expression -s ("blendShape1."+$array[size($array)-2]+"=frame/"+($end-$start)) -o $temp[0] -ae 1 -uc all ;
}

now say you wanted to bake 0 to 30 use:

bakeDispToBlend(0,30)

agin in the script editor

the code isnt realy allpwrfull and cheking for every possible occourence but works in my test environ. Its not entirely stable tough so dont bake too much at atime.

there's also this script...

http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/me...amics/3769.html

I've tested it, it works quite well. Might solve your problems too.

Thanks a heap guys,

Particularly for the scripting stuff. I havent had a chance to work through these yet but will get back to you as soon as I have tried them out.

Cheers
