Actually because of Flash's excellent ability to work with Java, Macromedia itself is holding back its own market share in development of web-based applications.
It was my company's responsibility to create a large ($10 million) web Java application, initially front-ended by Flash. This is something that a lot of enterprise-level software development companies are doing but is really out of scope of most of the users on this board to know about, so I understand you not understanding that.
However, it clearly would have been easier had Flash worked better with Linux. Linux is widely used in web development as a desktop for programmers, this is well-established, and so this point is not really worth debating.
It would have helped me and it would have helped our business, but it's not our responsibility to help companies gain market share nor become apologist for them when they don't address our needs. The good news is that the .SWF format is easy to crack and open-source tools are coming along to address the need. I can see the need for a vector renderer under my Linux system to deliver low-bandwidth training material, and that's because I did such a project. Unfortunately I had to employ Vmware to render it correctly.

Sure but how many copies of maya would actualy depend on this, or flash mx for that matter. But the fact that linux is a excelent web development platform dos not mean its a good flash development patform. Infact is not realy that much better, just a better server paltform in general thats all (its like saying because this is good for 2d its good for 3d aswell).
Also the fact that you have better php facilities on linux is sure true, but why cant they use the machine remotely, i mean linux is good at that. Thatway tehy also see what MOST of their user see, making them much more valuable for the web game.*
Are we talking of 1000 or 1000,000 a lot is a apect that questionable? I mean there are MANY widows flash developpers out there. Curiosity tools do not pay for your bills you know. No matter how much you bash your head linux still is a fringe market here, just like mac is for maya.
But apparently the comppany that liceces the vector renderer isnt all that interested in that share. Besides its not realy all that usefull, at the end of yoru day for flash anim. Contact them and asuure they will be getting much money out of this.
Besides i dont se many fulltime jobs avialable for maya and flash development tough i do se alot of ones that use MAX on widnwos.
*much liek geme developpers shoudl use gamer cards on their dcc machines not quadros
