i use the version 6.0, i can't really explain how that happened.... actually another curious thing is that i tried an experiment and mapped a sky texture on to a sphere and rendered it with maya vector and althought the texture was not defined there were definitely spots and blurs that looked a lot like the texture... the parameters are:
