I'm new to Max and to the forums, so please forgive me if I duplicate something that's been asked. I did look around using a few searches, but my search-fu is weak today.
I'm trying to create a transition between two surfaces; one side has a .png file with alpha that creates the fadeoff, but for the other side's fadeoff, I'm trying to use vert alpha. Whether or not it's the best solution is irrelevant at the moment; I just want it to work so I can see how to develop it from here.
All I want to do is control the vertex alpha on a handful of verts. I'm a long-time Maya user (... waits for the boos and hisses to settle down...), and there, it's a simple matter of going into the component editor and changing the vertex alpha values in a spreadsheet.
For the life of me, though, I can't find an analagous command in Max. I can paint vert color, I can "bake" lighting to vertices, but I can't get the vertex alpha to change. Or, perhaps... I am changing it, but I can't tell how.
That's the second part of my question. If I find a way to affect vert alpha, how do I see what I've done? The vert color painting is pretty simple, and the visual feedback is nice and mostly accurate. (Rendering produces some mild differences, but that's normal.) So... how can I see what changes I've made for the vert alpha?
I'd much appreciate any information that anyone could offer.
Thanks!
