hi everyone...
i am box modeling a low poly head, starting with a polygon cube. i have cut the box in half, duplicated it with a -1 scale, and modeled away. in the process, some of the verts along the center axis of the model have gotten wonky. i am trying to snap them to one another, or to the center y axis, to realign them, but have had no luck. i have researched other posts on this forum, and have therefore changed the move tool settings, turning off "retain component spacing." I have tried every combination of snapping with hotkeys, and the verts will snap to grid, but not one another. I have also tried using various "snap tolerance" settings in preferences.
the vertices never quite snap, and will also not merge using edit polygons-->merge vertices, despite trying differect tolerances. is it because the duplicated half of the head is an instance? for example, when i select one of the verts to snap, the corresponding vert on the instance is of course selected. do i need to turn the instance into a true shell before snapping so the verts are independent?
it seems like this should be straightforward, but i have spent the past 6 hours trying to get the two halves of this head shell to snap together so i can export to another prog. anyone have any clues? i am using maya 7 and am not using connect poly shape or other similar plugs.
thanks you!
