What setting allows me to draw vertically? Maya keeps telling me to draw on the grid?
Thanks,
Marty

tap space, choose a different view and tap again.
but seriously read rhe manual. This is as basic as it gets
PS no serious maya user keeps the interactve creation mode on bacause it really does not give you any benefit
I've pulled in an Architectural 3D CAD file (.dwg), and am trying to get it presentable. I've got about 20 years of basic Autocad, with some 3D modeling, within engineering environment.
I've been able to learn how to texture and use the hypergraph a bit, but I don't have the manual.
The only view I can get to actually see the model in is Persp. I had to set the far clip plane to 4000, to see it.
I keep trying to adjust some settings for the top, front & side view cameras, while in the views but still can't get the model to show up. I can click 'default home', and see the model fly by real quick but then its gone.
Back to modeling in Persp, I would imagine i could draw a polyplane in vertical fashion by adjusting the axis somehow,
is this not true?
Thanks for the reply,
M
Howabout extrude.

Cae applications work with different philosophy. But yes your knowlege is basically allomst totally obsolete (unless you want to be a illustrator) CAD is dead, CAE replaced cad about 10 years ago, its just that some fields of engineering are just a bit SLOW on change but its dead allright its not actively being even developped anymore. (yes i know how to use autocad, allways liked autolisp) It will die with your generation.
And yes you do have the manuial hit f1

Well yes theoretically you could do that its just that nobody does this*. What you do is you create a construction plane rotate it into position and activeate it. But really no point nobody actually works in this fashion since its slower inferior and has less control, Mot users would just use the scale tool, or use the construction history to get the shape they need.
No this si not autocad theres no such button. No need for it. Noramlly you would just use whatever objects you happen to have on screen and use the same magnet icon on them

well try running:
viewClipPlane -acp;
viewFit -all;
** and because cad is dead and CAE sounds flimsy now CAE apps are starting to be called CAD again altough they have nothing to do with drawing. I was tle last class to be educated in using cad back in 95. Basically becasue cae is so superior for engineering purposes.
Thanks alot Joojaa for the image help and industry explanation, I knew I should've moved this direction about 10 years, oh well glad to finally be here. This program is incredible.
Do you have any good references, for free models?
I need trees, basic cars, and human models, so I can get rollin..
Thanks again,
Marty
