I was primarily a Mac person but got a PC to run Maya. I received for free a P3 700. I have just under 400 megs of ram and I just bought a Geforce 4 64 meg video card. I have a problem usin subdivisions when I model a character. It starts fine but gets really bogged down. I know that my set up isn't the best, but I really can't afford to spend too much more on my system.
I'm wondering if I got a new motherboard and added another 512 megs of ram would help, along with an AGP port 4x.

Right now the video card I have is 2x and can be run on 4x.

Also, I'm thinking that I may not have my video card setting right, cus the program runs the same as when I ony had an 8 meg video card. Literally no difference.

If I need to I'm willing to spend money on another video card, but hopefully not too much.

I'd really appreciate any help I could get.

Thank you in advance.

It may not be your video card that is bogging thing sdown. Sub-d's are notorious for being slow to work with once things get complicated. You may need to delete history on it or some other optimization to beable to keep working despite what hardware you throw at it.
