Video Toaster or DPS

Does someone know if Video Toaster is a good solution for Non Lightwave users as a Digital recorder. How is it a software solution as opposed to DPS products that are hardware. How would you capture?
Lastly, If anybody uses both I would love to hear which one they prefer and after all cabeling and drive requirements are met which one is a better buy for the money?

I wanted to point out that I have been unable to purchase both of these digital disk recorders for a year.. and still don't have it in the budget. But I live in Colorado and access to these products is null and void period. Before I spend the cash this spring for one of the two I would love to hear your opinions.

I am a Lightwaver and Aura 2 user but I bought a DPS Velocity 2D and it ROCKS!! I have not used the Toaster but I have heard too many horror stories about stability. DPS is a big company and knows video production it shows in their products. For just basic editing and capturing/playback Reality would be your choice. If your going to do NLE then I would get a Velocity.
