I am gonna replace my old wildcat4000 to Visualize FX5(from HP). Does anyone know about this card? I read about it on HP website. The performance is similar to Wildcat4110. If you have any opinion please do. This card will be in my customized system.
At work we use the FX10 with a dual PIII 1ghz. Since the FX10 is quite a bit faster than the FX5, I will say this. Don't Do it!! Even with FX10, it is slow by today's standard, especially if you have to pay a high price for it. I would say stick with the wildcat or get a Quadro2Pro/DCC or Geforce2/3 instead. The FX5 is definitely not as fast as the Wildcat 4110.
Because it is a good price. $200US Brand new.. Still not suggesting? I think it will be faster than my Wildcat4000. Wildcat4000 is now slow. and not certified HW from Alias qualification. FX5 is certified for maya4 and have no problems with maya. I am confused. Should I get Wildcat4110 instead? Wildcat4110 is $475US now on Ebay. I need more input about FX5 issue.... Thanks for your helps
Well, I don't have direct experience with FX5, but I use FX10 everyday so I can only comment on that. The driver is solid and very stable and I have never had any problems with it whatsoever. But the performance is not great. I would say my fireGL2 at home is definitely faster than the FX10 and my GL2 runs on a dual 450 at home. So for the price, its not very satisfying. If you are getting the FX5 for 200 bucks, well, its going to be really stable and you shouldn't have any problem running maya with it, but if you get a Geforce2 ultra or Geforce 3, I wouldn't be surprise it would be quite a bit faster than the FX5 and its going to be 50 to 100 bucks more. Texturing on the Geforce will definitely be faster than FX5. So its your choice. 200 bucks for the FX5 is not a bad deal, but I am not sure how long it is going to last you before you upgrade again.
If you are considering a fx5 card for $200, consider my workstation I am selling, which is an HP FX6 for $500 total.
A screaming workstation for the price of a opneGL card (included!)
