Hello everyone.
I've been struggling for the last 3 days with trying to convert a vray material (with an hdri image in the environment slot) to an A&D material to render in mental ray. I was hoping maybe someone might be able to help me.
So here goes,
I'm trying to achieve the same output I get when I use the vray material on this greebled plane, by using an Arch&Design material.
So far The results are FAR from being close to look alike.
The material in vray produces this result:
The material I managed to get going in A&D got me this result:
Now, although the mentalray engine seems to produce a bit more realistic results (I think), you can see that the texture I use in the diffuse slot, got almost no color at all.
I lose the colors. And in the Vray scene, All the color detail is retained.
Now a bit about the setup of the scene:
Vray scene has no lights. Only using GI and a VrayHDRI in the environment slot.
Also, I'd like to mention here that I'm trying to translate the material used in this tutorial. It's an amazing tutorial which explains how to use the greeble plugin in 3DS max. What amazed me, is that even the tutorial itself, let alone the final image was done so nicely and thoroughly. I really appreciate its author and the time he put into the tutorial.
The mental ray scene is lit by a day light system with mr sun and mr sky.
In this render I use the default Physical sky image and not the hdri file from the tutorial.
I also use FG with 2 bounces and preset set to low. 1x16 Mitchell AA.
The material I used here has got an A&D material with a glossy preset and the same files from the tutorial in the corresponding slots (hopefully).
So from the renders you can see that the MR image looks much more "out door" and the colors of the texture are gone. While in the Vray image, it looks saturated and there are nice specular highlights (except for a few white burnouts which appeared for some reason).
Also, I tried some of the VraytoMentalray scripts out there including zap's script. None worked.
So... please if someone has got an idea on how to get an A&D material to look like the one in the vray scene, please!! let me know
And THANK you for reading all of this through...
