Basically what happened was my co-worker got a dual slot 1 board which was upgradable to 2x 1000mhz. [yes for a limited time intel did have a 1000mhz pentium 3 slot 1 processor.. it stank though.. 100mhz bus speed and was mostly sold to oems like compaq]. Anyways he needed to upgrade from 2 450's to 2 800's.
PCcanada told him to get brand x socket adapter the chips work perfect with his motherboard.. even to the point of one of the sales guys saying he had a similar setup himself.
Basically they sold him the wrong processor type and adapters, so the store gave him a real hard time saying that they actually said "it SHOULD work" but that wouldn't be a good guarantee that it would work.. they wouln't take the chips back and exchange them unless he paid a 25% restock fee. At that time two800s were around 900$plus tax.
So they wanted 250$ for the priviledge of fixing their goof up. they should have done the proper thing most other stores would have done and swapped for the proper processors.
