Wacom Intuos

I am considering the buy of a Wacom Intuos A6 or A5 Wide. Im leaning towards the A6 because its only 200 euro. I will use the Wacom for Photoshop and Zbrush mainly. But Id like it if it could replace my mouse entirely. Is the A6 big enough for brushing in Shop & Zbrush and navigating through Windows XP?

Also, some people are not recommening me a draw tablet because it doesnt work very good because you cant lift up your pen. Im used to drawing with real pencils and paint with real paint and brushes. This advice was given me a few years back though.. Maybe current Wacoms are better?

the A6 is perhaps a wee bit small, but its certainly useable.
as for the pen you use it exactly like you do a normal pen, the tablet tracks the pen up to 1in off the surface.
they've always done that.

Thats great! (1in = 1 inch, right? )

The A5 Wide would be better but its double the price

also consider whether or not you use(or want to eventually) use 2 monitors... get a widescreen style of tablet or it'll feel weird.

I think you better wait untill you have the money to buy a A4 tablet, otherwise i think it may not satisfie you on the long term.
Further on it works great with an Intuos!

thats the best misleading advice i've ever heard must have been somebody who never used a stylus before.

I think the tablet cannot fully replace the mouse. The mouse is good for somethings such as scrolling.

But the question does it need to? I mean i use my wacom mouse every day. But also use the pen every day too. Better yet i can use both at the same time (this nifty in 3d apps). But scrolling is actually quite trivial with the pen.

So yes mouse is superior if you jsut browse the web.

Go for the a5 is will do just fine, the a6 will be a bit to small.
I would recommend the a6 for a laptop but not for a desktop solution.

Got a Intous3 a5 tablet hooked on a 1600x900 screen and it work perfectly.
And a tablet can work just fine if you are used to a pencil/brush.
The wacom pen has the option of changing your pen tip.
You have a normal tip, a tip with a small spring(mimics the effect of a brush) and a soft pen(to mimic the effect of chalk, soft pencil)
