The preferences idea was a good one, but the problem remains.
Here's some odd things - Problem is not affecting the same files when opened in 5.0
And very importantly, this problem affects all files opened in 6.01, so it's not just the utilities, but perhaps something to do with the way Hypershade is handling them. But I do not know how to make Maya use Hypershade in 6.01 the same way it is in 5.0

I've used 6.01 for several months now without ever having a problem with this same hardware.
When I delete certain utilities in Hypershade things change. If I delete certain Utilities the ball that I see in UV Texture Editor will look like the textured Lambert Sphere that's in Hypershade instead of the default gray one it normally is showing me.
At the moment I'm stuck just using Maya 5.0 until I figure out why Hypershade is screwing with my UV Texture Editor. I mean I really wish it was a hardware issue, but then it wouldn't make sense that the hardware would have worked before for so long and still continue to work in Maya 5.0 on the same files.
