WOW!!! Softimage is really cranking now. What amazes me, is there is a lot of stuff defined in this sneak peak, and yet this is just a teaser.
Can you hear it?...I definitely think I hear a buzz starting with 1.5.
Urp
a buzzz hmm goe sun unplugs my old lamp there you go sorry bout that it buzzs sometimes S
snaps fingers and makes shoting gun actions thank you thank you very much
That's a really good idea, can't wait to see that in play in XSI.
I really want the modelling tools to be fully built up though, because there's no point in sending notes to a colleague when he can't use Trimmed Nurbs to make it.
That's my big wish for XSI v1.5. A complete and solid modelling toolkit.
Here's the "pdf" located? I see only the same images that have been there for some time.
I think they had to take it down. The site isn't run by Soft, but an individual. I guess he wasn't suppose to post it.
I have to admit I am not surprised, the Beta non-disclosures wouldn't allow for it in the first place.

The whole story about 1.5 is a bit unclear to me. Soft site says it will be available december/JANUARY, everyone else says december.
What really interests me is whether the FUR plug-in will be integrated. I saw screenshots of the simulate module which included a hair simulator, but nothing in the styling/shading department. Can anyone who actually read that pdf document knows anything about it?
the pdf is for beta 1 and in beta 1 we have no fur. I believe it will be in final 1.5 but cant confirm.
ciao
Hrm,
without wanting to be a spoil-sport, if they do everything in release 1.5, what is going to go into 2.0 ?
we know pretty much for certain that the polys and bools are there, but that already is a big whopper of a job to have done in since the release of 1.0, when combined with the large amount of stabilising and bug fixing that will have been undertaken. I'd guess some things will have to wait till next release. Of course, if they keep up the pace that they had with SI|3D, then they could be releasing the next updater a few months after 1.5
Lets not forget the development doesn't end at 1.5
Balgillow.
Trust in Murphy, God of Inevitability
There's alot to do in XSI v2.0...
There's an enormous amount of bug fixing and optimisation that needs to be done to the program itself. I think that play much more importance in the development of v2. Speed increase in Irix will need to be changed to, possibly making it run without crashing after 15-20seconds?
Also, Fur I don't see being in 1.5. Not to mention more particle tools and hard-body animation. You can't just places particles in the scene for no reason, which is something you can do in Maya. General Attribute Painter (GAP) needs alot of fixin and better implementing, Softimage need to make surface deformations with GAP a little easier and more interactive, not to mention painting!
Uh, the interface is really good, however there's a long way to go in terms of stability and speed. Maya has the manipulator tools which make modelling and animation much more user friendly.
Better import/export support for more file formats. The more the merrier. Softimage shouldn't have any worries there.
Trim Surfaces!!!! PLEASE !!! I want them now!
Trimming Surfaces causes some horrid geometry deformations (at tesselation), but they are gorgeous for interactive modelling.
That list isn't very comprehensive, nor is it organised. I just typed as I could remember but it does show the huge list of things that can be done by Softimage to improve XSI. With ALL the things that need to be done, they must remember to KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) in design. I think AW has done that quite well in Maya, hopefully Softimage will follow suit so the program doesn't become bloated and hard to use.
Hi,
Don't be so eager to get your hands on minorca...
From what i saw a lot of stuff just wasn't working.. and I'm talking about stuff that worked on v1.0...
plus that alot of stuff is still missing!
can you be more specific as to what you think is no longer working etc ?
Project Leader, Animation - SOFTIMAGE
I think he's refering to the SIMULATE module which kinda doesn't do squat in Beta1. However it works in Beta2, despite an apparent huge reduction in speed and increase in bugs - so I hear.
Please get rid of all the bugs, XSI can be sooooo good if you just rid of the stupid bugs
I heard that some of the new features in 1.5 (NT version)
will not be in the irix version.
eg. net view
I can't comment on specific features in unreleased software, but rest assured we are working as hard as humanly possible in getting you the best quality software we can, running as efficiently as poss, crushing as many of thse bugs as we can.
I was concerned that the earlier poster was seeming to imply that we were somehow removing features that were already there from the upcoming release (not true), or that the stability/performance has somehow decreased (which we certainly believe is most definitely not the case as we stand right now - we are somewhat beyond B1 now, btw).
We have been working extremely hard on this release, and I think you'll find a substantial amount new (and stable) there.
Thanks for your patience and understanding...!

hey gocam think you could suggest to the big guys there over at softimage to release maybe a 30 day trial cd or something like that so thouse of us who dont know people useing XSI can still try it out and see how it works for them
thanks
Gordon .. Are we going to get it in December ?!?!
hi john - thanks for your comment re. the trial cd. Rest assured that your mail has been passed to the relevant parties - gordon

Re. getting 1.5 in December. Again, I can't really say too much officially.... But, we are in advanced beta testing and we are working as hard as possible to get it out to you as soon as we can (with as much functionality, performance and stability as possible). We aim to hit our deadlines. That's all I can say for now. Everyone here is focused on getting this done and out there,

thanks gordon i appreciate it
im dyeing to give XSI a try but 1 i dont knwo anyone useing it 2 im majorly pressed for time with schoola nd getting my demo reel done and dont have time to call up a reseller in NYC convince them to show me a demo of it and find the time to go see the demo and besides watching some one use the software is not the same at all to haveing it and useing it for a month thats the only way to really have any idea if the software is what your looking for
