What Card? got $1000 to spend,

I could stretch it to $1200, I was thinking Quadro 2, thats because its the only one I know?
I like my games so it has to be a card that can run games.
oxygen? what are these cards like? can they run games?
I like my heavy nurbs modeling so I want a card that has some power.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

choose one or the other....if you are spending $1,200 on a pro card then get the Diamond FireGL2. it will be more than enough for your nurbs modelling needs. it doesn't have the fill rate of the quadro2 so games will not be so hot i'm guessing. here's what i would do. buy a pci gaming card for like $120 bucks and have them both installed. with that kind of investment it should really be a dedicated 3d system, but if you MUST play games then you were right with your first choice. the quadro2 pro will rule in games and will run pro apps really well as you get specialized drivers for all the 3d apps. i think you can buy one for like $850 now too.

get a Ge-force 3 they should work great .
this crap about not working well with pro apps is well, crap..I'[ve had my little geforce2 GTS by elsa for over a year and HAVE been doing stuff with it with pro packages.
Its not a wildcat, got one at work, but for me at home it kicks ass, and I have not noticed ANY issue that has slowed me down to the point that I can't work in maya or Max or anythign else I use.

Will the F/x engine on the GF3 help in the Cad department?

why not? CAD is all about pushing large amount of polygons. And thats what the g3 is all about when you get down to it.

maybe..but its not any more powerful than hte geforce 2 ultra in terms of pushing polygons ..well..not enough to justify its high price anyway.
if your doing texture work then this is the card to get...animation..etc
but then if you decide to change your mind down the road then this is a great all around card
for strictly cad stuff..id get a firegl2 though.

Geforce2 Pro (Hercules) is a great buy, 5% slower than the Ultra but TONS cheaper..

OR

FireGL2, but then you'll sacrifice DirectX support, I believe.
