What Distro Of Linux To Use For 64 Bit Laptop?

Hey guys

I recently (basically last night) got a new laptop which is an HP - AMD 64 - turion,
So now I am planning to install a 64 bit Linux OS on it, What would you guys suggest, I had a quick look into Debian but appearantly they don't support the AMD 64, Or I might be wrong.

What do you guys suggest??

By the way I'll be using mostly Maya and Shake.

My recommendation would be to install Novell SLED 10 (SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop). See a review here http://madpenguin.org/cms/?m=show&id=7150 which explains in detail about the distribution including screenshots. The advantage being it's an Enterprise distribution that offers technical support when you need it, supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit processors, user friendly, not memory resource intensive and is RPM based like Autodesk Maya.

suse is nice choice for quick, working install of linux. It all depends on your needs in the end.. if you need to take advantage of every bit of power and are a geek to optimize everything then gentoo would be what you need. If you just want to install and get to work SLED is great choice being that it is supported as a distro.
