Where To I Place Maya Plugins

Please, somebody help!
I downloaded some plugins for maya and i have no clue where they go to use them.
for example Maya character creator.It is a (.rar). I cant' even drag it anywhere.
Another one in the abAutorig for caracters. Step by Step please(i have a Macbook Pro)

well you usually have to load/enable plugins from the windows>preferences>plugin manager interface

.rar is an archive format.. you need to expand the file first and then read the documentation or readme contained therein as to how it should be installed.

Typically the plugin will be copied to D:\Program Files\Autodesk\MayaX.X\bin\plug-ins

but it may also includes scripts and icons for the scripts or even a shelf which all go into different locations which should be detailed in the plugins install instructions

I usually just expand a extra path for third party plugins since its usually a good idea to have them separated. Maya doent actually care where you put them as long as you tell amya whare it is.

Thank but when I am in Maya, Where do I tell him to go get the plugins.

You edit the maya.env file with your text editor. Or put a environment variable in your operating sytems path. Read the docs on environment variables.
