White Background In Render Mode

Ok so after watching "Learning 3D character animation with Jeff Lew" I couldnt help but notice that when he renders (test render) he has a very slick and nice looking white background. How do I get this in Maya, coz mine is all black and depressing, and how do I test render an animation in Maya?

To get a white (or any color you like ) background in your render, select whatever camera you are rendering with and open the attribute editor. Look for the background color slider, which is black by default, and turn it to white.

To preview animation, I believe it would be more efficient to do a playblast instead of test render. Just right click on the Play icon to get the menu to popup and select the playblast or playblast options.
