Hi all,
Not trying to create another Maya/XSI war at all!!!!
But I have been finding lately that a lot of Maya's tools (namely animation tools TRAXX to be specific)
and
poor implimentation of uv support for SubD's to name a couple.
etc... has finally led me to the other side.
XSI.
I have played (quite extensively with Maya 4.5, yep 4.5 beta). Not much has changed in these areas. these are the crutial elements of Maya for me.
Not fluid dynamics and water, smoke presets.....Same old renderer.
XSI on the other hand (still getting used to UI and workflow) has what appears to be a truly functioning Non Linear animation system. Excellent subD Uv, texturing. Not sure about the modelling toolset yet. (that's probably me though).
The renderer is from what Ive seen remarkable!!!!! To say the least.
Just thought I'd say a few words in praise of XSI (maybe vent a little also...)
Are there any/many other people moving over????
If so please get in touch.
re Cornelius
i am not moving over but use the 2 apps in production
soft3d/xsi since 5 years and maya 2years, i really prefer xsi...
Great that i can share.
I'm Softimage|3D users for the first time. I used it 2 years and i found it great.
Then suddenly so many people talked about Maya when the first version came out. I waited until Maya 3, then i shifted to it. I like everthing that it has there. Except for the rendering result. Too bad, that's the most crucial part for me.
Then i decided to test SI|XSI 1.5. I'm pretty disapointed at the begining, that the modeling tools and some part of it is just not there yet and far away from production ready.
After doing a lot pf thinking and research about both of the programs, i decided to use XSI 2.0 which come out with 2500 feature. Just that don't expect to much from the modeling tools, you can't even project curves and trims on the NURBs surface. Too bad. The polygon and subd is kick ass. No complain. The rendering result is excellent as well. The interface is more user friendly than maya. The dynamic, particles and cloth simulation is still far from maya but I trust Softimage that will go high in the future, i really hope for it. I dunno why i always feel comfortable when working with XSI. The way they design it is very profesional. It's just a sense !
Best Regards
