Why make head in half?

hello everyone~
why most head tutorials also suppose making head in half first, then mirror the second half to finish the head? what's the advantage?

less cludder.
its faster because your only concentrating on one side of the head.
both sides look symmetrical when your finished ( this one can be a con because it makes your model look like a stereotypical perfect cg model )

The good thing about working on half a head is, of course, the speed and also less points to confuse. You can also mess and tweak with the other half of the head when you join the two halves together to create a less symmetrical look.

The way I modeled my head was using a profile then duplicate and rotate then reshape continuing this until I had half a head, I would not have got a better result any other way especially from deforming a sphere.
If you are modeling a simple head then use a sphere, but if it is complicated and you don't use a half head then your head could take twice as long. ( just my opinion)

If you were modeling a car you wouldn't model all four wheels, you would model one and copy it. The same is true for modeling a head.
Why duplicate something that can easily be copied by the computer.

Although at some point you will want to make each half have it's own character and be different, which is more accruate to life. However, it is most practical to do this at the end. Although some artist feel it necessary to model both sides together from scratch to avoid being influenced by total symmetry or having to avoid the gap between halves before merging.
