Hey, I just want to know what do you guys think about this next release of Microsoft.

Not sure what this has to do with Linux, but it should be plenty fast. Apple's been doing a similar kind of windowing for almost two years now on relatively low-end hardware. By the time Longhorn comes out, it'll be pretty ho-hum.

it has to do with linux because M$'s next release will make linux rise higher.

applpe's been doing all the gfx and stuff by using a thing called quartz, which is where the OS (and all the 3d effects) uses the video RAM to store all the OS and graphics memory, and not the ram.

im not looking forward to it, because, well, linux is free. im not paying 200$ for something i can get for free. besides, linux is faster.

This should not have been posted in the LINUX forum. Not only is it not a LINUX distro, it's also still beta and won't be released for another 2 years. Most claims thus far by Microsoft have been vaporware and it's getting sickening seeing where they plan on taking current Windows users. All reviews of the test releases have been full of bugs, slow, bloated and with ugly oversized GUI boarders/tool bars.

It seems the way Microsoft is dealing with this new Windows version is to lock consumers in to a turnkey system by limiting what hardware and software can run on it. I see this as a monopoly tactic similar to Apple with their OSX Jaguar and upcoming OSX Tiger that only runs limited hardware and software which locks the consumer in. By the time Longhorn gets released it's most likely going to flop. I say this because companies such as Novell (SUSE LINUX) and RedHat (RedHat Enterprise/Fedora) are meeting the needs of consumers with out hardware/software lock in.
