Wtf doesn't `button -q -bgc` work?

I have created some buttons that have a background colour (for a quick palette swatch tool). I'm trying to get the colour from any of the buttons and the button query just returns nothing. I have:

window -wh 100 100 testWin;
columnLayout;
button -w 80 -l "blue"-bgc 0.2 0.3 1.0 colButton1;
button -w 80 -l "yellow" -bgc 1.0 0.9 0.2 colButton2;
showWindow;
but when I try to run button -q -bgc colButton1

maya returns nothing... so I end up with the colour black (zero)...
try it and see...

I'm using Maya 4.5... is this a bug?

the -bgc flag is a windows only option. Does not support linux or unix. If you are on windows, your code is just fine, I just tried it on maya 4.5 and 5, and its fine...I get a blue button and a yellow

As for your query...if you check the docs, you will find that -bgc is not queryable. Sorry, but if you need more flexibility with interfaces, your best bet is to do something via a plugin that ports maya data to an external interface.

yeah, I know the window works, I couldn't have queried it if it didn't!

hmm.. my docs don't mention anything about the -bgc flag not being queryable..? doesn't that strike you as a bit odd that you can't? it's only 3 floats...?

Anyway, the solution I've come up with is to store the colour in the annotation (-ann flag).

yep...basically...in the Maya html docs, if you go to your button command, you scroll down to where it says -bgc flag. If there is no green Q next to it, it ain't queriable. Likewise, no E means it ain't editbal, etc etc
