Xsi compositing?

I've read that xsi 2.0 functions as a compositor as well. Compositing as in live action compositing or 3d elements (aka Final Fantasy) compositing? Please help as the answer deides whether i purchase after effects. Thanks. By the way, new to forum so hi.

It does both live action and 3d elements. (but then again every other compositor probably does.) Since I started using XSI 2.0, I have not touched After Effects except to load up old jobs that were done in AE to begin with. In fact, the last 3 jobs I worked on used only XSI 2.0 and Photshop. (for textures)

But, keep this in mind, I am sure that there are things that After Effects does that XSI 2.0 does not. (the other way around is also true) Your mileage may vary. I'd use XSI 2.0 fo your compositing and see if it will do what you want. If not, then buy After Effects.

indeed, im really keen to indulge with the compositor....
the demo on the site was so efficent, im sure what whould have taken me 10 to 15 mins to set up in after effects flashed before my eyes in an instant.

The compositor is the integration of another avid product? is it digital studio or something else, im not familiar with high end compositing packages....

either way it looked goooooooooood.

I've heard that it is a combination of Illusion (Avid) and Eddie (Softimage) But I would not be surprised if there was some DS in there too. I've been using it, and it is a real time saver. For every job that I've done, since I started using XSI 2.0, I have not had to use another compositing package once. Everything has been done in XSI. (except for texture creation, which was done in Photoshop)

mmmmmm, its kind disconcerting.
I can see the remainder of my life spent within one package.
thats never been feasable before.

(photoshop doesnt count.)
