This is from Softimage's KB articles not sure if it will help with Mandrake but you could give it a shot. I am Running 3.01 on RH 8.0.
Symptom
When installing XSI 3.0.1 on RedHat 8.0 the folowing type of error messages appear near the end of the install.
Error : sireg - setcoex /usr/Softimage/XSI_3.01/Application/bin/libsireg.so /usr/SoftimageXSI_3.01/Application/bin/libsireg.so
Error : sireg -setval key=Interactive CacheActive value=0
Cause
The installation program requires libdb.so.3 to be installed. This version is not installed with RedHat 8.0
Solution
Install db2-2.4.14-10.i386.rpm (Berkeley Database)
This RPM can be found on either RedHat 7.2 or 7.3 CDs, or from pmfind.net
Or install compat-db3.3.11-2 (included in the RH 8.0 distro)
Red Hat
Note: RedHat 8.0 is not supported by Softimage as a platform for running XSI 3.0.x
Symptom
After running up2date and installing the latest updates for Red Hat 8.0 XSI no longer runs, Even though the SPM service is running.
Cause
XSI no longer runs because it was possible that you updated the GLIBC libraries which over wrote the original version (glibc-2.2.93-5) that was installed with Red Hat 8.0.
You can find out what version you have installed by typing rpm -q glibc in a shell. If your version is higher than 2.2.93-5 then XSI will not run.
Solution
Option 1: Updates Already Installed
Uninstall the current glibc library by typing rpm -e glibc in a shell, then reinstalling the original located on Red Hat 8.0 CD 1. (this might require you to uninstall applications that are dependant of glibc as well.)
Option 2: Updates are not installed as of yet
When running up2date scroll through the list of available updates and move all of the glibc libraries to the ignore package list. There might be cases where other packages are dependant of the newer glibc libraries if that is the case then those packages will need to be moved to the ignore package list as well.
