I can't get XSI to import an OBJ or DXF model. Anybody got any suggestions?
Real easy, but follow the procedure.
From whereever you export the OBJ, make sure it is exported by object, and not as a single object, unless thats what you need.
Import the OBJ using Softimage 3.9 (that comes with XSI) using Tools/Import. TURN OFF Sort Polygons. That option seems to crash Soft with high poly counts. Save out of Soft either as a model or as a scene(I use scene) and import the scene or Softimage model into XSI. That works fine.
Avoid comples polygons in your geometry. All polys should be quads or triangles, or any combination thereoff. But be carefull toa void polys with five or more points. Those are treated as holes. I find the same problem when importing OBJ's into Rhino.

There is a script included with XSI 1.5 for this. To obtain it, press ALT-5 to bring up the Internet help window. It works for me!
