I'm new to XSI, and I'm trying to import a Lightwave object into XSI - the only way I found for now is to convert my LW object into a .xsi file with 3d explorer, but when I import this file in XSI, my object doesn't show up, though it does in 3d explorator... any ideas or other ways to import LW objects...? any help would be highly appreciated
The only thing XSI really imports is .iges files. The .xsi file format is more of a viewer. Your best bet is to import stuff into Softimage 3D. It imports .obj, 3ds, etc...no lightwave though. Then just save the scene in Soft 3d then open it with XSI. There are commercial translator packages out there but I don't know if they'll go from Lightwave to XSI. Check out Polytrans...they may do it.
As a side note, I was glad that I could import IGES files into XSI. Got to love creating models using Pro/ENGINEER and then importing into XSI to make some pretty pictures and animations for marketing purposes.
DStorm (LW Japanese Developer) have a free .hrc exporter for LW modeler. (5.x and 6.x flavours) Check out Flay.com for the URL. The only thing to remember is save your .hrc file to an already existing Soft database otherwise XSI will only bring in a null. I use it all the time.
