Xsi Opening File Problem

i'm having a problem with XSI v5.0.2005 with opening a scene file that i have just saved... i noticed that i couldn't open any of the tutorial files i downloaded so i decided to test being able open a scene with just a box in it. I save the scene and give it a name, lets say box.scn but when i go to open it i get this error message.
[filepath]\scenes\box.scn could not be opened, thats all i get. How do i fix this problem? if anyone else is having this problem or had this problem please raise a voice too, cause i can't seem to find any info on it at this point in time.

I am having the same problem with you rzaol!
I am using XSI v5.11.2006.0529 under Ubuntu Linux and I am really confused.

Isn't there someone who overcame this???

Ubuntu Dapper - 'scn could not be opened' error

I have XSI 5.11 running on dapper 6.06.1 LTS.
I've solved the seg faults on startup, and it seems to run very nicely apart from two crippling problems.

1) consistent 'scn could not be opened error' at the 'Loading environment... 65%" stage.
2) segfaults on MERGE scenes.

The only error during installation is 'Error: Creating libgcc_s.so symbolic link'

So close yet so far...

Has any one come any closer to a solution for this insanely irritating problem?

Below are all the steps i've taken to get this far, if anybody can think of anything I haven't tried, or actually has XSI opening scenes in Dapper, please help!

HARDWARE: Intel Xeon CPU 3.60GHz , 2GB RAM , Nvidia Quadro FX 3400

Licensing
License served from remote XP machine, lictools confirms connection and availability.

Firewall
There are no firewalls or antivirus running on ether localhost or license server.

Video Drivers
The latest Nvidia drivers caused XSI to segfault on start up. Installing the 7676 as certified on the XSI site XSI site fixed the problem.
The driver installer had to be patched to compile on 2.6.16 kernel. Patch is here for any interested.
