I've heard rumors that 3.1 is even faster.
Any mr3.1 beta testers there done any tests?

According to that site, rendering that scene on your machine in v1.5.3 took 24:50 mins, while it took 1:20 in v2.
That's quite unbelievable! Very impressive.
But I'm a little curious as to what you have done to your dual-PIII450 to make it render faster than a dual PIII-866 with the same RAM?
My expectations of v2's increased rendering speed have been greatly exceeded if these benchmarks prove to be accurate.

The scene that was rendered on the dual PIII 866 was set up for XSI 1.5.3 not XSI 2.0. Since mental ray 2.1 and 3.0 are drastically different (obviously) they need different settings. When these different settings are used not only does the scene render faster but it looks better.
So, I sent Geert an XSI 2.0 version of the scene which rendered much faster and produced images that were identical to the ones rendered with XSI 1.5.3. I am hoping that Alexei and Adam will have a chance to re-run their tests with the revised scene. Any one else that runs this test from now on will get the XSI 2.0 scene since it
