Z buffer

Hi guys,

A very basic simple question. How to apply our Z buffer information into Compositing Packaged like After Effects, Discreet Logic Effects and others ? I try to simulate 3D Depth of Field in Compositing package, It doesn;t hav any effect when i applied it. I know, i need Z buffer information to do this. Have any idea ? Thanks a lot

yea u need zpic info to do that, in AFX, u could use Zpic info, but in effect u cant, because it use rla from 3d max.

To do it in AFX u should place the zpic files in the same folder u have the pic files, and the apply the effect in Effects>3D channel> fog

If you decide to render out Zpics, use mental ray to do it as it will write full-frame information. The Softimage renderer only writes info as long as it sees objects in the frame, and therefore can create incomplete files which may be a problem for compositing packages.

It works extremely well, Just like what i expected, I'm trying to simulate 3D Depth of Field. This is the best way to do it in Compositing packages rather than using 3D Application DOF (SI3D), it takes forever to render. Anyway, Does it work at the same way in Maya Fusion ? What is the best compositing packages so far ? Thanks a lot guys

Sadly Discreet just supported MAX RLA, it is a great compositing packages. hmmm.....
