Z Depth Files

ok....i've rendered out a z depth file and want to view it in photoshop.....but i am unable to open it. i get an error message that says it is an unkown format. i've rendered it out as a .tga and a .jpg....but nothing works.

what am i missing here? can the z depth only be read in compsiting programs like after effects?

i was hoping to use the z depth file in a single image and add depth of field in photoshop.....is this possible?

you can use fcheck to convert the zdepth to a regular bitmap image that PS can use or since it's a still just do a screen capture of the image displayed in fcheck.

There are also presets to create depth render passes in maya 8 and 8.5 that don't need to be converted
