I loaded a Photoshop image into ZB for some 2d work on it. I applied the smdge brush with an alpha and got an effect I wanted (see image fragment below). I had planned to put this image on another background in photoshop or zbrush. In photoshop, I can use selection to grab the image so as to make the background transparent, which has black black backgrouind now, so that I can move it as a layer to on top of different background image. However, in attempting this in photshop, the nice feather-fade at the edge of the image is lost because apparently you can't select something with that type of gradual fade out.
ZB layers are strange, compared to Photoshop, and I'm not sure if you can paint in 2d on a layer to get what I want. If the background image is present in ZB, the smudge brush smudges the background as well as the foreground image I want to change (independently of the background). How, if possible, do I work on a foreground 2d layer in ZB without affecting the background layer; or is there another ZB/Photoshop solution?
Thanks,
James
