Looks like an expensive version of one of the pakistani or russian pirate warehouses.
Essentially they download software via ussual channels (not legal) and spin off a CD and mail it with a keygen to you.
Of course the less than bright consumer will have spent 700 dollars on maya unlimited; when the value of his purchace is really no greater than the 35 cents that would get him a blank CD.

One surefire way to make sure its on the up and up; is to contact Alias or SoftImage or something along those lines and see if they are an authorized reseller.

Well; if your in the US of A; or the UK; or most of europe yes. However the FBI can't exactly go knocking on the door of Ivan the pirate just outside of siberia. Certain countries laws just don't extend that far in. Essentially these folks are the worst of the bunch in that they attempt to take advantage of the consumer saying "well its not 10 dollars; its 700 dollars; its obviously legitimate right!" and forking over nearly a grand.

Yeah, I came across a place like this when I was looking to buy Maya 4.5 for the Mac. I emailed them, asking if they had 3.5 or was it 4.5, because their price was really, really low, and I figured it was just a used copy of 3.5. They responded by saying they had both, and that they had Complete and Unlimited for the Mac. I was a little shocked, so I checked Alias|Wavefront's site... and no Unlimited.

Needless to say, I didn't feel like loosing a few hundred on a chance, so I bought Maya from Alias. It took a little over a month to get it, but I've had fun with it ever since.

I can't believe I actually considered buying Maya that way. I am still relatively new to this internet stuff, so I didn't figure there could be illegal practices like this happening so openly. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle. Gi Joe and all... LOL

My advice, is save yourself the chance from future backlash, and buy Maya from an authorized reseller.

The differance is buying from an authorized distributor will allow you to use the software legally. The piracy route will only cause you and your clients headaches down the road. Not to mention severe damage to your bank account.
