i'm a bit surprised that there's so many recommendations for the Gnomon DVDs.. personally i find them pretty limited, and slompy stitched together (some of them seem have to be made within two hours, at 3am, after too many drinks). heck, i watched them after only a few weeks working with shake and i was always shouting at the screen "guy, you're in the wrong node!".. most annoying is if they do something with looks completely unconvincing and utterly horrible and then say "yeah, that's quite nice, could be better but i think that's ok" 
the manual has much more detailed (and acurate) info, and is free.
